Welcome 2011
So i was disconnected from the blog for some time but i was mostly tracking
1) Volt - GM Volt - i loved its news and was expecting an affordable commuter car ( its expensive for me now but i am sure it will come to affordability some time after )
2) Android : Kool yet another linux from Google with more focus on mobility, user experience and cross platform
2011 predictions :
1) A lot of Apad ( Android Pads ) to market
This is going to be a flood.
2) Hologarmic phones, You will be see person and talk ( those tiny pop ups in 3d ).
3) Ultra/super capacitors to market - may be this year or next year but its very close. We mostly will have battery break troughs which may make EVs cheap and fast chargeable.
I am not sure but the buzz looks graphene based stuff may do a sweep ( already they have graphene supercapacitors which stores as much energy per unit mass as nickel metal hydride batteries). so expecting it to find place in EVs
4) I think cars will changed a lot , small cars will switch to EVs and trucks to range extenders/Phevs - this is one of the big possibility. May not every one come with a prototype but i think for sure , tests will start.
5) TV - this is again going to be full internet based. The traditional cable companies are going to be looking more of home phone operations /wireless operations to provide connectivity. Even the concept of home phones are going to be less. more switching to mobile. 3D - no big sales till hologramic ones are out. Expectations on a glass using 3D is much less compared to a hologram one.
And me , will try to post at-least one post per month :-)

Range extender : thoughts
- Better torque
- We can use the generator at work sites when we are out of power
- Can scale on power out put of generators for power required for a work ( ex: can have profiles like commuter, work - light, medium and heavy etc - The idea on the above is replacing transmissions with generating only the power required for a profile and save the energy by running at sweet spots for max efficiency and power outputs.
- Less complexity in design and less wear and tear.
- More efficiency as we use only required power for a situation.
- Can use the most efficient designs ( ex: use low rpms, high efficiency constant rpm / multiple sweet spot designs and in case of electric motors newer designs with multiple on demand windings to get max efficiency and power on demand )
- As are using electricity as we can make use of the regenerative mechanisms to generate electricity and use them.
- We can use buffer mechanisms like ultra capacitors to store energy as
b) As a supplement energy for peak energy needs.
c) As a buffer to keep energy
d) As an abstraction to cover the start stop nature vehicle application and can use technologies which doesn't have the start stop nature support.

Taking for Granted
It was a very familiar scene from my childhood. Then i started thinking of how that pump works.
The motor produces rotary motion and that motion need to converted to a flow and finally move water from one place to another.
It was fun to think like a child. I started thinking i have 2 buckets, one placed down with water and second one placed above me which does not have water. I have straws from both in my hand. Its nice to imagine, I suck from on straw and then spit to second. so in total the actions i need is use my both thumps to close ends of straws to avoid air entering/water coming out and then suck and spit.
The action in a procedural way
1) Close both ends of straws with thumps
2) Open thump1 and suck from the straw which is from the bucket with water.
3) Close thump1 and open the other thump
4) Spit water to that straw and close thump2.
5) Repeat step 2,3,4 again and again till the water finishes.
So we found 2 valves, one chamber, a Piston and rad can covert rotatory motion to water flow. May be one design for a pump ( seems this was invented in late 1800s ) and we never think how things works.
Just taking the comforts for granted. Never thinking ...

Divide and Rule - Part 1
Divide and rule is a combination of political, military and economic strategy of gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into chunks that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. In reality, it often refers to a strategy where small power groups are prevented from linking up and becoming more powerful, since it is difficult to break up existing power structures.
The typical elements of this technique are said to involve
- creating or encouraging divisions among the subjects in order to forestall alliances that could challenge the sovereign.
- aiding and promoting those who are willing to cooperate with the sovereign.
- fostering distrust and enmity between local rulers.
- encouraging frivolous expenditures that leave little money for political and military ends.
In 1835, Thomas Macaulay articulated the goals of British colonial imperialism most clearly:"I have traveled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace the old and ancient education system, her culture, because if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will become what we want them to be, a truly dominated nation."
The strategy was succinctly put: "We must do our best to form a class who may be interpreters between us and the millions whom we govern, a class of persons Indian in blood and colour, but English in taste, in opinions, words and intellect." As the architect of Colonial Britain's Educational Policy in India, Thomas Macaulay was to set the tone for what educated Indians were going to learn about themselves, their civilization, and their view of Britain and the world around them. An arch-racist, Thomas Macaulay had nothing but scornful disdain for Indian history and civilization. In his infamous minute of 1835, he wrote that he had "never found one among them (speaking of Orientalists, an opposing political faction) who could deny that a single shelf of a good European library was worth the whole native literature of India and Arabia". "It is, no exaggeration to say, that all the historical information which has been collected from all the books written in Sanskrit language is less valuable than what may be found in the most paltry abridgments used at preparatory schools in Englandto be continued ...

The power of abstractions
I work with computers for a long time, but never thought how the art of typewriting came in. Last day while playing with kid, he was asking me to do stamping, and then we did it on different patterns. Then i was talking to wife about Chinese and English languages where Chinese consists of words and not alphabets. I told they have a problems with new words. Wife told it may be really tough to remember all the words.
Then i started thinking, all the key board may started as stamping in a sequence. But what may be the requirement ? different hand writing ?, standardizing the handwriting ? may be. But i am sure people wont be able to do sequence stamping faster than a person writing.
Then somebody came up with an abstraction for sequence stamping - which is called as a key board - Some blog told key board was invented 52 times to reach the current state. Now who needs to think of sequence stamping ?
Time changed, the underlying mechanisms changed still the abstraction remained and found place in the new generation devices like computers.
Same is the case of world. Almost all primary skills changed but the abstractive skills remained. People learned the new abstractive skills and relayed on them for the existence. Then we create derivate abstractions from primary abstractions and the derivate abstraction creates new skills and we learn them and move ahead. Always news skills born then specializations happened and the derivative abstractions occurred. We found design patterns and new abstractions and created new skills. The cycle continues and we move ahead creating/learning and abstracting new skills.
The power of Abstraction leads us to development and new ways of life.

More inspirations on the way

1984 Chevrolet Citation IV

Ford probe IV and V

GM Precept
Seems it now time for govt to act. They have to follow/make similar model of japan on defining a class of cars where which gets insurance and tax breaks ( like kei cars ) so that companies can come forward, make business cases and design and sell new products !!
Its not because companies has ideas to innovate but its only because govt is not allowing them to go out of the box solutions and gives opportunity to sell them them.
My ideas on the new class definition is like for a start they should come up with parameters like
Min: 80 mpg ( from regeneration and optimizations - no external alternative energy supply )
4 wheeler ( 2 - 4 seats )
should pass min crash test ratings ( ex: 3 stars for frontal, side, rollover etc )
etc etc.
For plug-in rules should be different and the standards should be moving , like 120mpg on 2015 .. and must plugin-features and safety features.
this makes more people buy commuter cars which are very effective and takes less to maintain + develops new ways to find solutions for problems apart from electrification and allows use of other technologies like aerodynamics, regenerations etc to be in practice.
For GM Precept its nice to have visit on : http://www.electrifyingtimes.com/gmprecept.html

Hybrid Auto rickshaw
Auto rickshaw is a very popular common man travel in India. I think its popular in all developing world where there is more man power available.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_rickshaw
Looks its a very good use case for a Hybrid power train as
1) it has a lot of possibility for regenerative breaking as its runs more in city traffic and low speeds
2) An electric motor for low speeds can make the efficiency improvement
3) Most important : less pollution
4) Millage increase as ICE works more on optimized conditions
I am not sure why companies like bajaj is not considering a hybrid powertrain for an auto rickshaw

Why Indians Don't Envy Israel?
Perhaps, it was a well-intended article, meant to instill sense to the senseless people who have been clamoring for an all-out war with Pakistan to take out the terrorist camps and to put an end to the terrorist strikes that have become so commonplace lately. I said perhaps. Perhaps because I still respect the author for his writings that used to uphold the plurality and secularism of India; for all that he has written against the growing clout of the majority fundamentalism in India. But then, I wrote perhaps. Perhaps because the Haaretz article does not read like one from the celebrated author and champion of Indian plurality, who once wrote if America is the melting pot of cultures, India is more like a thali meal, where each dish has its own character and taste and yet complements each other in making the meal a satisfying repast.
India's Israel Envy, read the title, which the author later attributed to the Israeli newspaper editors. But, for all that one understands from the piece, the title just sums up what Mr. Tharoor says in so many words-a case of sour grapes.
Look at the words used in the first paragraph. "As Israeli planes and tanks were exacting a heavy toll on Gaza, India's leaders and strategic thinkers were watching with an unusual degree of interest - and some empathy." Unusual degree of interest and some empathy from India's leaders and strategic thinkers, it says. For all that we know, our country and most of our leaders till very recently-that is until the BJP Government opened diplomatic channels with Israel-had their sympathies with the people of Palestine, for their just cause, for all their sufferings. And even now, the right-thinking people of this country who haven't lost sense of justice have their sympathies with the cause of Palestine. So, from where does this interest-isn't it such a positive word? Like watching a cricket match? I thought we watched terrorist attacks - government-sponsored and private - with anxiety, and not interest-come from? And empathy? Well, only Mr. Tharoor knows when did our sympathies for Palestine people transform into empathy for Israel.
Mr. Tharoor's admiration for the Israeli action becomes clear as he goes on eulogizing Israeli determination in dealing with the Hamas. As if to show that he is not the only Indian charmed by the Israeli iron fist, he writes that the Indians have been nodding in appreciation and asking "why can't we do the same?"
He continues:
"For many Indians, the temptation to identify with Israel was strengthened by the terrorists' seizure of the Chabad House, and the painful awareness that India and Israel share many of the same enemies. India, with its 150 million Muslims, has long been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, and remains strongly committed to an independent Palestinian state. But the Mumbai attacks confirmed what has become apparent in recent years: The forces of global Islamist terror have added Indians to their target list of reviled "Jews and crusaders."
Just as Israel has frequently been attacked by rockets fired from across its border, India has suffered repeated assaults by killers trained, equipped, financed and directed by elements based next door, in Pakistan. When President George W. Bush's press secretary equated members of Hamas with the Mumbai killers, her comments were widely circulated in India."
After painfully building his argument that there are many parallels between India and Israel and cleverly putting India with the Western forces in the Us versus Them global war on terror, he declares: "Yet there the parallels end". And that line did make me hope that he was coming to the facts there. I thought he would tell us why we shouldn't put the terrorism in India and Israel in the same bracket. I thought he would tell us why people should stop eulogizing the Israeli determination and understand that what Israel is carrying out on Palestine and its people is another brand of terrorism-a state-sponsored, home-grown brand, and that Palestinians were forced to doing what they are doing now by decades of Israeli (with the active support and encouragement of the US) atrocities against the people of Palestine, that UN and the people of this world have been made mute-spectators to one of the worst human-right tragedies of our times.
Instead, he goes on to build a rather baffling argument:
"Israel is a small country living in a permanent state of siege, highly security-conscious and surrounded by forces hostile to it; India is a giant country whose borders are notoriously permeable, an open society known for its lax and easygoing ways."The problem is with our country and our people, he says. He forgets that we are fighting different issues; except for the Islamic prefix (well, then, who said Gujarat pogrom was not a terrorist activity? What about Malegaon? Babri Masjid?), there isn't much in common. I wish I were a little too naïve to think that Sashi Tharoor doesn't know these.
What is more baffling is his parroting the Sangh Parivar line of India being a soft state. He forgets the realities. He forgets what India has been doing in fighting terrorism. He forgets that we cannot afford to have a tough-state label at the cost of basic human rights. And, most surprisingly, he doesn't talk about the causes of terrorism at all; he talks only about the symptoms and addressing the symptoms. Baffling, isn't it? A friend suggested that he might have lost his senses the moment he joined Indian politics; not that I think all our politicians are senseless, but I liked that observation for want of anything better to explain Tharoor's rather nonsensical article.
After explaining in length about why we "cannot" do what Israel is doing; he concludes:
"Yet, when Indians watch Israel take the fight to the enemy, killing those who launched rockets against it and dismantling many of the sites from which the rockets flew, some cannot resist wishing that they could do something similar in Pakistan. India understands, though, that the collateral damage would be too high, the price in civilian lives unacceptable, and the risks of the conflict spiraling out of control too acute to contemplate such an option. So Indians place their trust in international diplomacy and watch, with ill-disguised wistfulness, as Israel does what they could never permit themselves to do."Again, look at the words; whoever said words do matter was so right I realize as I watch, disappointed, another icon, created by powerful words, being demolished by his own words. Take the fight to the enemy, he wrote, betraying his sympathies for Israeli action. Suddenly, he sounds so pedestrian, pretends like someone who has forgotten his history lessons, like one of those next-door knicker-wallahs who make sweeping statements like every madrassas in this country has terrorists in them and should be taken out along with the terrorist camps across the border. Yeah, those knicker-wallahs have long been talking about taking a few leaves out of the Israel's anti-terrorist operations.
Mr. Tharoor goes on to say that Indians watch Israel doing what they could never permit themselves to do, with ill-disguised wistfulness! And the reasons why we CANNOT do to Pakistan what Israel does to Palestine, the nuclear warheads Pakistan has; otherwise, we could have done what the US has done in Afghanistan and Iraq, what Israel continues to do with Palestine. As I finished reading the piece, I couldn't help wondering whether he has really lost his senses. Perhaps.

HOW IS AN E-REV DIFFERENT FROM A HYBRID?
Volt would be the first car to flip that equation. In fact, Volt's unique advanced design has helped establish a new category — Extended-Range Electric Vehicles or E-REVs. Basically, an electric motor would drive the vehicle at all times. So you'll be accelerating, driving on the highway, going uphill — all the normal driving requirements — propelled by electric power. A small gasoline engine and a generator would kick in when the battery power is depleted after driving up to 40 miles. The gas engine and generator then produce all the electricity needed to keep driving for hundreds of miles. It's this range-extending technology that makes EREV so unique. Think of EREV as an electric car that can generate its own electricity, allowing you to continue efficiently without any worry of running out of power.

Because the engine drives a generator that will run at a constant speed, the power band can be optimized for maximum fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The engine will not fully charge the battery (this would be an inefficient use of gasoline). Rather, it will provide enough juice to keep the car going until it can be fully charged in a household outlet. This kind of advanced propulsion system means there are fewer demands on the engine, which can be sized, engineered and controlled to operate in a narrow range of rpm and at peak efficiency.

Extraordinary technological breakthroughs have helped Volt capture the public's imagination. Fantastic Cheese…
Bob’s reputation is one of being a smart technical innovator. Bob previously worked as an engineer at a large company doing work that is related to how Fantastic Cheese will be manufactured.
Bob has received some financial backing from a respected venture capital firm called New Ideas Capital. New Ideas Capital states in their Investing Policy Statement that they are focusing on investing in cheese related companies because New Ideas Capital believes that cheese is a future growth sector however New Ideas Capital will not discuss their investment in Bob’s Fantastic Cheese.
A large respected military food packaging and catering company called War Food’s, Inc. has provided some funding to Bob to help Bob further develop Fantastic Cheese. Bob has agreed provide War Food’s Inc an exclusive for Fantastic Cheese for certain military food products.
Nobody has seen or tasted Bob’s Fantastic Cheese although Bob has started to build his Fantastic Cheese factory.
An independent company has certified that Bob’s factory is capable of propagating Bob’s proprietary baseline cheese starter bacterial culture. Bob claims his cheese starter bacterial culture contains a unique balance of enzymes that interact in the curdling process in such a way that the cheese becomes Fantastic Cheese.
An independent company has certified that Bob’s factory contains cooking vats capable of maintaining a constant temperature within one quarter of one degree centigrade. Bob claims it is critical to be able to maintain an exact temperature during the cooking process to manufacture Fantastic Cheese.
A very large portion of the cheese produced worldwide is used for pizza toppings. Therefore the potential worldwide market for Fantastic Cheese as a pizza topping is fantastic if Fantastic Cheese is as fantastic as Bob claims. Every pizza maker will want Fantastic Cheese because Fantastic Cheese will render all other cheeses obsolete.
Given all the above facts, why would Bob license his Fantastic Cheese to a small pizza operator under terms that allows the small pizza operator to be the only pizza operator to use Fantastic Cheese?

The Resoures Era 2.0
Whatz special about this era this time ?
In first era 1.0 people traveled for more trade routes, discovery of countries, invasions and extraction of resources etc. Now we are almost run out of resources
Oil we have but we cant afford, we need cheap and its not clean air technology.so we need clear alternatives ( we need renewable energy and all our out next gen utilities should be using the electricity ). So we need more ways to produce, store electricity and should be affordable.
Second, we cant eat electricity as of now. We need more food. We have more people and less land, so we need to make more food from less. Another potential area for next gen.
Health, Last day i was watching a movie on clones. The theme was like, when you take insurance policy, they will take a sample and make a clone of you. Once you need any organ or something else, they use the clones one ( saying you won a lottery move them to an island and kill them ). To be true i fear this movie is going to be true in this era.
Lets see what all this era offers but as first ones, yes battery technologies are hot now, now computer is a normal thing and its no longer the high pay job.Its a skill every one need to make your work better.
Lets be back to manufacturing and research. Make more resources.
As i was reading the land is mars is good for asparagus, We can expect an era where asparagus is made in mars and space shuttles running back and forth for transportation.

Next Big word for USA
Why ? USA started with industries and then they lost the track. For more profits they outsourced the quality jobs and only sales and some other minimum pay jobs remained.
The industries said they are getting profits.People who got profits brought land and land owners got money and all the real-estate eco system got the money. They never cared that all the quality jobs are vanishing. Now they are understanding that there is no customers who can afford the services/products and there is no market.
Why ? Because quality jobs vanished and now all get minimum pay jobs and they cannot afford.
Do this has any relation with next big word ? yep lets see whatz swadeshi movement
wikipedia says :
Mahatma Gandhi described Swadeshi as "a call to the consumer to be aware of the violence he is causing by supporting those industries that result in poverty and harm to workers and to humans and other creatures."
Gandhi recognised that alienation and exploitation often occur when production and consumption are divorced from their social and cultural context, and that local enterprise is a way to avoid these problems. "Swadeshi is that spirit in us which requires us to serve our immediate neighbours before others, and to use things produced in our neighbourhood in preference to those more remote. So doing, we serve humanity to the best of our capacity. We cannot serve humanity by neglecting our neighbours
Now USA has to make things and not import. Have to shift business back to US and not say we outsourced fabrication or other stuff.
Lets look for more "Made in USA" and let people support the move by spending on local products.

The New Chevy Volt concept - OPEN VOLT
Alternatives ? OPEN VOLT - Thatz a nice thought
Lets follow Linux model combined with IETF model (hybrid).
TARP/Other funding money goes to NASA or some good agency ( NASA because it can use space technology for use of men and VOLT for space exploration) . All Specifications and designs come from Central agency for the platform. Its like Linux kernel. Then any vehicle manufacturer can make Volt ( like Toyota Volt v 1.2 , Honda Volt 6 , Hyundai Volt ABC etc ). They have to follow the OPEN VOLT specifications and they can design there own body according to aerodynamics . Same with Interior etc where the specs will not be tight on and allow creativity ( this is like distributions in Linux ).
All good practices will be taken back to Central agency and will be done like IETF drafts or Jabber XEPs or Java JSRs. It will go through review and tests and the ones which qualifies comes out as specifications and gets into new version of OPEN VOLT specifications - something like RFC. As this is a proved model in computers ( the IETF and RFC ) , we can use the same concepts for OPEN VOLT.
So when we buy a VOLT get the list of specifications it follows and we have the freedom to choose vendor on core components - ex: battery, Generator, Electric Engine etc - and Specifics (non core specifications parts) from my distributor ( ex: Honda , Toyota etc ).
Put your votes on the OPEN VOLT !!
Lets write open letter to Obama as this idea is going to be saving our future and no distributor ask for money in future.

Bubbles ( kumilakal )
Preface :
This is a small story. In starting you may be bit confused but once you go till end of the story, everything will be fine.
Lets start reading.
In a small island ( not iceland ) there are 3 inhabitants.
Kunjumoosa
Kunjunni
and Kochutresya
Kunjunni and Kochutresya doesn't own any land but both have a dollar each in hand.
kunjumoosa does not have any money, but island is owned by him.
Kunjunni got a desire to buy the island. He gave a dollar and brought the island
Balance sheet :
Kunjunni has a dollar valued island
Kunjumoosa has a dollar
Kochutresya has a dollar
Total Value in island : 3 dollar
Seeing this, kochutresya also want to buy the island. But she was sure she cant get that for a dollar. She borrowed a dollar from kunjimoosa and brought the island for $2.
Balance sheet :
Kunjunni has two dollar valued island
Kunjumoosa has a dollar to get from Kochutresya.
Kochutresya has two dollar valued island but she got a debt of a dollar. So she has a dollar net value.
Total value in island : 4 dollar
Kunjumoosa felt sad on the land sale because he felt it was too worthy and its going up. So he decided to buy back.
He took loan of two dollar from Kunjunni and brought the island for three dollar. Two dollar cash and one dollar as credit of the one dollar she loaned before.
Balance sheet :
Kunjunni has two dollar value - which is loaned to kunjimoosa
kunjumoosa has three dollar valued island.
Kochutresya has two dollars.
The bubble went big and big. Every one happy and every in profit.
Days passed, Kujunni started thinking again .. do real estate rise this much ? do i get the money back ?
Kunjumoosa and kochutresya also started thinking - d this land cost this much ?
Kunjunni asked the money back. Kunjumoosa tried to sell.
The market for land went down.now its back to a dollar.
Konjumoosa because bankrupt and gave away the land to kunjunni and declared chap: 11.
Balance sheet :
Kunjunni has dollar valued land.
kunjumoosa - 0 dollar.
Kochutresya has two dollars
Total value in island : 3 dollar
End of story.
Tailpiece:
Nobody knows when the bubble bursts. The person with cash at time of bust gets it. So don't worry if bank doesn't give you a loan. They want to secure cash in hand for now.
Management fundus will say kunjimoosa to sell the island divided etc but we want to make story simple so no side lines added.
special thanks : Gopakumar

Gods own county - Terrorists rules
The Local police, Govt and Political parties started working ( yes, Political parties just try to blame each other )
The next is only my view and only my view and i am not expecting somebody to read but i am expressing my opinion using freedom for expression of opinion.
This time when i was in India,I had a talk to most friends on the bomb blasts etc.
One of the Opinions i herd : There is a feeling in Muslim community that they are targeted globally and this feeling get oil when they go as group and it get worse and results in attacks.
Another one : They should understand they live in India and work for India. They are killing innocents.
Another one : There are 3 truths : my truth, your truth and the truth.
and goes on.
My View :
I think politicians in Kerala did helped these organizations to grow just thinking of vote banks because they get Muslim votes as bulk. For them this is wake up call to work for nation and think above Vote banks.
I think a minority in Muslims may be doing all the bad things. Let me ask, what kind of reputation was there for normal swamis when Santhosh Madhavan case was going ? a lot asrams were attacked. Did they killed people ? or took the sufferings ?
Do u think this wont happen with Muslims now ? and if they react same violence, its going to be loss for Muslims more because the belief of normal people get more strength.
I know Muslims of India are of Indian orgin and they are even given more reservations than normal Hindus. Think of what happens in middle east and how non-Muslims are treated there. In India i am sure no Muslim get the same treatment like treatment of a non Muslim in a Muslim country.
I believe This is time for INDIAN MUSLIMS or i call them HINDU MUSLIMS ( where Hindu is that ahimsa culture ) tell or protest publicly against the minority who creates this problems.
They should share the same feelings of the mother who said " WE DON'T WANT THE DEAD BODY OF THE SON WHO WORKED AGAINST THE NATION "
NB: I feel Biharis and Mumbains also should share the same above feeling and the govt should declare Raj Thackeray (who tries to create split in Indians and make his party or presence - old divide and rule policy )as terrorist as the same standards they do against all the terrorists.

GM Volt and Next killing time of Electric car
Now every body want to say they are in EV business. But back to numbers :
Gas price back to $2 Gallon, GM almost near bankrupt - Do you think they will try to sell the Hybrids and the same old mantras ? or really they deliver Volt ?
Another : Do volt going to be another North American car - yes i mean on Quality which suffer very heavily with the Asian ones. Built Quality, Durability ...
I know a lot who already had American cars and now they don't want to be part of this bandwagon. They all shifted to the other side. Now its GM duty to get those back and it cant be done saying we have quality.
Lets see how volt can bring them back ) I hear 2008 Malibu is lot better than old still they are miles away from Prius and Civics. Lest see How GM will close this gap.I am sure its not only price point

Why Impressive india and why not ?
Impressive:
===========
Mobile rates (phones and call rates )
It was very easy to get a connection - just 2 IDs and connection is mine ( total spending $10 with around $8 call time, free incoming and outgoing ( including on roaming at 4 cents per minute ) ??
Impressive ? In Canada, I got a fat bill (airtime charges ) from Koodo when i am back and used it for calling a toll free number.
Living standard ( special kudos to IT guys ) - IT people having US pay and Indian expenses - wow Royal Life !!.
Cars - The cars standards were impressive : Tata made a lot way -- Maruti still doing great and Swift which looked great compared to North American model. I believe North Americans should see that model and cry on how Suzuki/GM treats them.
Buildings
- 4 yrs back when i was leaving India, there was some big buildings - this time they looked old and new buildings -- Great !!
TV : get 250 channels for $10 ( set top box free ). I pay big for less channels in Canada
